Afrika Safaris - Koos Greeff - 17 Jul 2004 10:27 GMT
Seems to me as if we are losing the battle against spam? Previously I have
tried to email these spammers directly and asking them politely to refrain
from doing so - many reacted positively. Now it is getting too much for me.
Any suggestions / help?

Hi Koos,

It is a real pain.

I use different email addresses for different purposes, the address I
use here generates about 5-10 pieces of junk a day which go unread
straight into the bin.

I also get lots (30-50/day) which come from an address on my website
which is a drag as some of them are probably genuine. I can do no more
than scan the subject line for sign of a real message before junking
them and I guess there must be lots of people who think I am a rude
git who doesn't reply to messages.

All I can suggest is to get a free email address (yahoo.com or
similar) to use for postings here and tag your postings to make it
clear that writing to you on it will not get a response. At least with
yahoo etc. you do not have to down load the message body to delete it.
It is quicker, cheaper and does not wind you up as much.

Best Wishes

Hi again,

Just another thought,

Have a look at http://thorntree.lonelyplanet.com/categories.cfm?catid=9

The African Branch of Lonely Planet's Thorntree Messages Board. It is
not email based, you have to read the postings online so it would be
more expensive but it does not bother you with junk.

It is much more lively, more like when this was Deja, than what it is
like now.

Best Wishes

Alex
