If I am not mistaken, you wrote that SS has been a success. I had to read
this a few times, to certify that I was not hallucinating. You are the
first person I have ever heard say this. Well, I say the following:
1. First, it is a big lie. There was supposed to be a trust set up. I
heard on TV just a few weeks ago, the trust funds are empty. Benefits
paid on a pay-as-you go basis. So what happened to all this money. Don't
we deserve an accounting. If a corporation did this to its employees,
they would have the right to sue if the assets were gone. Why can't I sue
the governement for failing in its role to responsibly act as a guardian
for my SS contributions. Please enlighten me and the rest of this chat
station.
2. Second, where does it say in the Constitution that the young have a
responsibility or a moral obligation to fund a plan for the old. And where
does it say that the government should be in the retirement business
anyway. It is a ponzi scheme. Wealth redistribution plain and simple.
3. Third, if you are going to cease my assets for this plan, at least
give me a decent return. If I had use of this money and invested it on my
own, I would have millions. And if I die before I collect a single dime,
all my survivor gets paid is a token burial benefit. The rest gets
redistributed. All that hard work in my life, going to someone else, not
to my survivor
The plan is a dog. Participation should be optional. I do not wish
anyone bad, but my retirement is my business and yours is your business.
Providing retirement benefits is not a function of government. Unless you
are a socialist. Mr. Brown, are you a socialist? If you are not a
socialist, than what are you? it does not seem like you are one that
supports freedom . I equate mandatory participation in SS as an
infringement on freedom.

Who said it is the responsibility of the young?
I don't think an employed 70 year old making $102000 in 2008 is going to
pay less than a 20 year old making $102000. In fact, the SS taxes are
exactly the same.
Perhaps you didn't read that part of the Constitution regarding "promote
the general welfare"
There is some reading here on the 1937 Supreme Court decisions in 3
relevant cases.
