I found an airline artifact at SeaTac the other gate, near gate N-15,
just steps away from the Rosetta Stone booth. It is an award that
United presents to the station that cleans their aircraft the best.
Interesting thing is that it hasn't been updated in years, and it sits
their lost, lonely, and forlorn, an artifact of days gone by when
airlines had the manpower to keep track of this sort of thing. Have
any readers seen other things like this?
So much going on at N-15. The other day, the United agent gave all
the flyers waiting to board a lesson on not needing to show ID at the
gate. I guess too many people were whipping it out along with the
boarding pass, and this clearly irritated the agent, so he announced
that ID is needed only at check-in and security, not the gate, and
please put it away, because I have an axe to grind. I wanted to tell
the agent that he was coming across a little severe, but I lost
interest about 5 seconds later.
And speaking of Rosetta Stone, I can't think of a more difficult or
lonely job than sitting at that desk. If there is any person who has
proved that he can face adversity, the Rosetta Stone guy would be the
one.
