Not sure, probably less than 24 hours. But you can do the trip by plane
with Airasia (quite inexpensive). If you have time, it's worth splitting
the trip into parts:
Bangkok - southern Thailand (Krabi or Koh Samui)
Southern Thailand - Pinang
Pinang - Cameron Highlands
Cameron Highlands - KL

Bangkok to KL - 24hour train ride full of regrets
In thailand maybe u'll get views of countryside. but in Malaysia, back
of people's home and tall grass.
In 1999, it costs me about RM120 or so for train from Penang to
Bangkok. Penang to Kuala Lumpur is 7 hours where Bus takes only
4.5hours. Total 24 hours to bangkok.

It'll be probably faster if u take bus from Bangkok to Haadyai, then
Haadyai to KL.

Try Airasia.com instead

1) See if u can get cheap tickets from Bangkok to KL, if not
2) Check if there are cheap tickets from Bangkok to Penang, then u can
visit penang, then the next day take bus to KL

http://www.fireflyz.com.my/ has Subang(KL)-Penang-Koh Samui-etc. cheap
flight
