Anyone done it and is the flexibility worth the bother/expense for 2.5
weeks - we'll mostly be staying in smaller places along the coast for
snorkelling/diving but want to do some cultural exploring as well (first
trip there). Thanks

You don't have much choice then. Rent a car. Small four wheelers (bad windy
roads with very sharp ascents (even more than 10% place to place)) cost from
20 euros a day. Typically the terms don't allow the vehicle to be shipped
out from the island.
