Air Mandalay flies from Chiang Mai to Mandalay. Once a week, on Thursday,
as of January, when we took the flight. I understand that's the only
international flight using the new huge, distant Mandalay airport. Getting
the ticket was an adventure; the airport in Mandalay is a bad joke of a
boondogle, with a nurse to check our temperature and lights that flicker on
and off. The flight was fine. Photos on my web site; URL below.

the map and from someone that has done this trip (2003), BUT try to get
flight info from the web site

An ancient Mongolian proverb that it is
"better to have seen it once than to have heard of it a thousand times".
As far as I know Yangon is serviced by Thai International, Myanmar Airways
International, Biman Air, Malaysian Air, and Silk Air. I think an Indian
line (not Air India) and a couple of Chinese airlines (at least one of which
flies from Kunming) also operate into the country.
