My wife and I are heading to Bali in January. Can afford up to $80 a
night and want to stay in Ubud and any other special places that
anyone can think of. Aren't really into the Kuta scene, nor hotel
feel. Anything would help!
As long as I am asking, how about some must do restaurants?
Thanks,
Gazza

Three Dewi's on Jalan Bisma in Ubud is in the middle of a rice field,
very new, very pretty, owner Made has three daughters age 3, 8, and
10. Doves with their restful cooing nest there. Bath with hot water.
I stayed there for five months because they clean everything every
day. Tasty breakfast included. About $8 a day.
Restaurants? Cafe de Artistes on Jalan Bisma had the best food I
tried there.
Lamak on Monkey Forest Road has amazing decor. I don't remember what
the food was like.
Gotta stay in the Kintamani crater at least one night.

80 bucks a night? you can spend 10 nights for that amount in the
marvellous Nick's Pension II !! (4 years ago)
Check Lonely Planet.
really a cool place owned by a Hindu priest. Very very clean,
tremendous setting! Carved wood chalets, real Batik sheets,...
DO not pay in dollar but in local currency.
A good restaurant at that time was Bebeck Bengil (the mad duck)
somewhere near the tourist info at the end of Hanoman street in Ubud.
delicious cocktails and roasted duck!
enjoy Ubud and stay away from package tour crowds at the beaches of
Kuta and Sanur!

Or you can pitch a marvellous tent and pay nothing.
