Does anybody know or have an idea how to get from Hanoi/Vietnam to Chengdu/China? Thanks in advance for any hints. [quoted text clipped - 6 lines] > > Ronald Unfortunately those services have disappeared from the timetable, and in recent times even when passenger trains were spotted, foreigners were sometimes denied boarding. If you like the idea of trotting along in period narrow gauge carriages, then the line from Hanoi to Nanning is still open (occasional direct services or swap to bus or local train at the border) and you can get a choice of overnight trains from Nanning to Chengdu. The more direct route would be by train to the border at Hekou, and then by luxury bus from there to Kunming, and by train from Kunming to Chengdu.
