I'm a bit confused about how to best spend the next 3-4 months I've
allowed myself to travel.
I'm from San Francisco, have worked and traveled europe(inc. Moscow),
and Ive just finished a three month contract in Singapore.
The problem is there is too many places to go!
I've always had it in my mind to travel back to SF via westward on the
trans-sib, but as it happens I have a number of aquantances in both New
Zealand and Eastern Australia and Ive always wanted to go there too.
Then theres south east asia, though Im not much of a beach or hot
weather person. I want to see Angor Wat and some of northen vietnam. I
know i probably can't do all of it within my timeframe.
So, if anyone is bored and would like to offer an opinion, Id
appreciate it. I suppose Ill come back to the region and should not
rush the parts i see now.
cheers,
matt

I did Angkor Wat last May - well worth it.
Here's a good E. speaking guide. I highly recommend him. He knows his
history and guides with an a/c car - for those of us that can't take the
heat. He goes by the name of "Ta" Tell him Jim and Van sent you -
elitangkor@yahoo.com.
Also, if you're not budget conscience, I stayed at an excellent hotel:
the Angkor Village Hotel http://www.angkorvillage.com/ Stay at the one
in town (the Hotel not the Village) just a short walk or tuk tuk ride to
the old market. Excellent service and surroundings.
I usually go budget but I was trying to impress my date. It worked.
We're getting married in Spring.
Cheers
Jim

Angkor Wat and the other ruins in its area are absolutely stunning.
You can get there on a one-hour flight from Bangkok (the flight goes to
Siem Reap airport, in the small town nearest to the ruins).
If you like trains (as I assume you do to even consider taking the
Trans-Sib), have you thought about going from Singapore to Bangkok by
the Eastern and Oriental Express? I've also heard very good things
about the Indian Pacific railway from Sydney to Perth.
Since you don't like hot weather, Japan and China range from cold to
mild in the winter depending on where you are. Hong Kong and Macau are
pleasant in winter. Tokyo and Kyoto are chilly but not freezing in
winter, and they are both really beautiful in March.

Thru air asia, u can visit several cities cheaply and quick. Chiang
Mai, Siem Reap (angkor wat is there i think), Hanoi,HochiMinh
or maybe u can visit borneo reserved forest or Taman Negara in Pahang,
Malaysia if you're a nature person.then to borobudur in Java. or Lake

AirAsia have had a longstanding problem with the Singapore authorities
over granting them rights to fly routes from Singapore. Currently only
their Thai offshoot, Thai AirAsia, fly from Singapore to Bangkok.
Tiger Airway would be a better choice. They are Singapore based and
fly to about a dozen destinations from there.
