Route 66 info

Am loooking to do Route 66 from chicago to San Diego later this year but the
drop off fees for the car are coming at $500+, any other options ideas
appreciated!

Slightly wrong!
One option you may want to look into is car delivery. There are agencies
which arrange for cars to be taken long distance by drivers such as yourself
wanting to get around. Typically the car owner is moving house but does not
want to drive the car all the way. There should be no fee for you to pay but
probably some sort of security deposit. I forget who pays the fuel.

You get a set number of days to do the trip, maybe not enough for you. You
may also have to settle for a rough match to your needs, e.g. Chicago-LA.
