Salisbury Y has an excellent location, central to everything. If you
can get a room there by all means. I think the rooms are a little
larger than your standard HK hotels.

Great place for the money when you consider the location and price of nearby
hotels.

Yes, the Y is great. Shell out money for the Harbor View Rooms. It's worth
it. :-)

Actually public transportation is not expensive, but it's a good idea to
stay not too far away from where the action is. Kowloon is IMHO the best
choice.

Not expensive by western standards. But if you have to take the subway
to and from work it can be pricey, esp. if you cross the harbor. And
it's crowded during commute time. So if you take a taxi it really
bumps up the cost.

I'd say there is also action going on on Hong Kong Island. ;-) I find more
stuff to do on HKG Island than in Kowloon. Moreover, Star Ferry rides and
subway are not too expensive.

They stop pretty early if you're staying Kowloon side and into boozing
it up in Lan Kwai Fong.

Cross-harbour journeys at night have always been a bit awkward in Hong
Kong unless you've familiarised yourself in advance what your options
are. Its almost impossible to persuade a taxi to do the journey unless
you know where to find the unofficial waiting places where cabs
wanting to go to the other side hang out. There are night busses, but,
especially for a tourist, it can be difficult to know which one to
take without being whisked off to another part of Kowloon to where you
need to go. I've often wondered why they can't keep the MTR running
until later into the night on weekends, even if it served only a
couple of stations on either side of the harbour.

But they close up early. Not too condusive to late night partying,
unless you want to go all the way to the morning.
