I usually use Avis, but when I called to make a
reservation was told they don't support the port, or
provide a shuttle to another location!!
What rental companies either have a source at the Port,
or provide a shuttle to another location?
Thanks!

None that I am aware of. You will probably have to drop at Miami Airport
and take a taxi. We face the same dilemma in April.

It may not matter, but we're arriving via cruise ship in
Miami, and need a car for a couple of days.
Presumably there are rental sites that aren't as far
from the port as the airport.
What's the best choice?

We posed this question a few weeks ago and had no luck with any of the
answers.
We called all the companies to see if any supported transportation from the
pier to the car.
We could not find any that would work. Hertz had something but the cost was
extremely high..
However, we did find a fix.
We are renting a mid-sized car for $53 @ day
Avis has a rental location 1 1/2 miles from the pier in downtown Miami.
The Avis location is:
Downtown Miami - M6I
99 Southeast 2nd Street
(at Southeast 1st Avenue) Miami FL 33131 U S A
(1) 305-379-1317
When our ship gets in we will get a cab to the location.
The only problem we can forsee is the cab driver being unhappy with such a
short ride and small fare and then having to get back on line again back at
the pier.
If you book with Avis, select the above location.
We called the Avis locatin and they confirmed they are 1 1/2 miles away.
We hope this helps.

According to the official Miami Port website
http://www.co.miami-dade.fl.us/portofmiami/directions_parking.asp
there are 8 rental firms that have free shuttle service to and from
the Port to their off site locations.
* Dollar Rent-A-Car
* Thrifty Car Rental
* Enterprise Rent-A-Car
* Global Rent-A-Car
* Hertz Corp
* Vanguard Car Rental
* Alamo Rent a Car
* National Rent a Car

I think in practise they all do from the airport. I have used Alamo and
they even list the Port of Miami on their website for booking.. even if
it is in fact the same as the airport:)
Miami, Port Of Miami
Port Of Miami Airport Rental Plaza

They purely run a shuttle to and from the port, no hassle. So I have no
idea why they say they don't and certainly I have seen the other rental
agencies doing the same.

I like ALamo but they also said that they do not do the port and then
said we could not pick up and drop there for a FT Lauderdale flight.
and rent in return, SO it was just as easy to go with hertz as my SO
has a big corporate discount better then the TA one. SO it seems easy
enough to just use them...
It use to be soooo easy with Avis!

Like you, we have used Avis in the past. It could not be more convenient,
but like all good things, they must come to an end.
We found ourselves in the same situation later this month and the best I
could come up with was Dollar car rental. Their prices were competitive and
they list a MIA cruise terminal as one of their pick-up locations.
I called Dollar before I booked and they said that the location is off site
from the pier but they do have a free shuttle. We will see what happens
when we get there and how easy the shuttle is to find. Worse case scenario,
is we just hop in a cab and go to the Dollar location, it is only about 2
miles from the pier.
Good luck....

It appears that the consensus of posters in this thread don't have a
definite answer. Calling your Travel Agent can answer which rental
agents have a presence at Miami's cruise port.
