> To all my true blooded americans, For that, I am sure that the First Americans (Native Americans or Indians) say thanks. But, what about the rest of us? We are a nation if immigrants. Only the First Americans are the true blooded ones. ( I know, picky, picky). But I think that we all need some education in this area. While in British Columbia, I often saw references to "Our First American Brothers..."

I must humbly take issue. I am a native American, though I doubt I have a bit of aboriginal-American blood in me. I do have some German, English, Canadian, Swedish, and who-knows-what ancestors. I am an American.
Be that as it may, I hope everyone has a pleasant Independence Day Holiday.
Dean <--- Doubt we'll get that family cookout done seeing as it is again raining in central Illinois (10 inches over normal rainfall for the year).

Brian's just been listening to too many news reports from the Obama "Love and Apology" tour. It's fashionable right now.

I missed that tour. After the Dubya "Let's send all our jobs to Asia, let's let the stock market crash, and then let's spend a trillion and bail out the banks and insurance companies" tour... I had no money left to go on the Obama tour...

You are surely old enuff to remember that Japan was going to the Ulitmate Downfall of American Business. The government did not "let" stock market crash any more than it "let" it go up before.

Fellow citizens of the US killing each other is hardly civil. The North's and The South's re[representative sitting down at a bar, working their differences out over a few pints. That's what I'd call civil. It would be even more civil if someone from the South brought along some Pecan Pie, and someone from the North Apple Pie made from apples of upstate New York. That would be very civil indeed.

It's fashionable right now. Actually, I have been a supporter of the Native American rights movement since 1969. My response was to take issue with the term "true blooded Americans". The term may not have been intended as such, but it had a tinge of elitism, and a touch of exclusion. We are all citizens of the US. Of course there is that group in one of the New England states that claim if you can't trace your ancestry back to the Mayflower...then you aren't a "true blooded American". That's where I was coming from with my statement. If you think about it, isn't Native American another way of saying First American. The meaning of both words implies that they were here before all the other immigrants came. Since they were here first, if any group has a clam on the term true blooded American...wouldn't it be the First Americans or Native Americans?
The televising of Macy's Fireworks on the Hudson River was the best, I've seen in a while. On year they superimposed these celebrity floating heads over the fireworks as they read sections of the Declaration of Independence and the preamble to The Bill of Rights. It was very distracting as you couldn't see the fireworks display. I am really happy that they didn't do that this year.

Brian, you are being picky and missing the entire issue here. It's Independence Day and Annie by saying, "true blooded Americans." meant all those who are loyal to and love their country. Let's not make it complicated! Happy Fourth of July, Everyone!

kerry ambler - 04 Jul 2009 17:29 GMT isn't the idea of independance day, independance from england? the people who came from europe many many moons ago and formed the original colonies became the united states of america. the native americans were later assimilated into that group. if no one ever came from europe there would have been no reason for independance.

For me there just are two many negative associations with the term "full blooded American", i.e. the John Birchers, KKK, American Natzis...etc. Had Annie said "Red Blooded American", that would be more inclusive. If you pick any of us we bleed red. I wouldn't have any problem with "Red Blooded American".
