Not really, Hunter;
We've camped most of our life in bear country without incurring any
kind of misadventure.
The only thing bears are looking for is FOOD! And if you are dumb
enough to store food in your tent, then a bit of canvas/nylon, isn't
going to stop them from coming in after it!
It's sort of routine to the point of ad nauseum, to hear bears
sniffing around the perimeter of your tent just a few inches away from
you at various times throughout the night. In back country, hanging
all food products on a line between two trees well above bear-reach,
pretty much eliminates the bear problem.
And once the campsite has been bear-proofed, you can relax around the
evening campfire, reveling at the sound of a curious Algonquin wolf
pack no more than a hundred yards away, calling to other packs way off
in the distance.

And I as well have camped in bear country all of my life...starting when I
was seven years old. I would agree with the above statement except I'd add
*black bears* look for food. When you add grizzly bears into the mix, all
bets are off. I give black bears a wide berth...and try to avoid grizzlies
completely.

Hi Stan,
As I said, it boggles my mind that anyone would tent camp in bear
country <g>

I'm with you. There's not much I'm afraid of.
But I try to stay the hell away from places where bears are known to be.
And especially if I were sleeping in a tent....

I have spent lots of time in tents in bear country, but only black bear
country. I camped several weeks a year for about 40 years in the
Boundary Waters Canoe area and never had a scary confrontation with a
bear. We packed up and moved a few times if a bear really wanted our
wilderness campsite and would not leave, but never felt threatened.
If you keep a clean campsite and hang your food pack they will sniff
around and leave (unless they are a sick bear). Black bears can be a
nuisance but are very seldom aggressive.
That said there is no way I would tent camp in grizzly country, those
buggers will eat you for lunch !!

True.

Naw, they only eat your naughty bits unless they are real hungry and
then they will gnaw on a thigh! <G>

LOL! Imagine being a bear and rustling through the woods looking for
berries and whatever.... and stumbling on a 200# dinner that can't
really fight back....

All you have to do is talk to the bear with no pre-conditions. Works
for Iran. Doesn't it?

If you're sleeping in the tent, you did leave FOOD inside!

And bears are not keen on catch and release.
