The workers at rest stops will have to go back to Mexico for work?

Took our usual Sunday drive yesterday.  Freeway was jammed like always
on Sunday.
Back roads were nearly deserted.  Very peaceful driving.  Lowest gas we
saw was $3.65.

So now that people are driving less, we'll have to jack up gas taxes to
make up the shortfall.  Of course this will cause people to drive even
less and we end up still having a shortfall and a lighter wallet.

But Al Gore is having orgasms of delight.

Doesn't seem like your driving any less.

I don't have my golf cart here.  In SV we scrubbed most of our Sunday
drives in favor of daily golf cart drives.

Not my fault they won't let me drive my golf cart on the roads here.  In SV
I can even sip a rum gimlet and no one gets excited.....

I think it's true that we are all traveling
less and doing it smarter. Gas prices are
down some here in the west.

Over the weekend we traveled through
Oregon. Trying to buy as cheap as
possible so as to encourage downward
trends I went to www.gasbuddy.com

In Portland I went to Bob's Auto & Gas
on SE 82nd off the 205 near Johnson Creek
Blvd. On Saturday I filled up at $3.899.
I notice today that the price there is $3.87.
Another station is $3.95 and another is $3.97.
Then 11 more stations in Portland are at $3.99.

This is no big deal in other parts of the country.
But on the west coast it's been a long while
since we saw gas under 4 buck$.

Gar, I see that something called Atlantis at
Hilltop Dr and Mistletoe Ln in Redding checked
in at $3.98 for RUL tonight.

God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of
his own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any
of the other players, to being involved in an obscure and complex
version of poker in a pitch dark room, with blank cards, for infinite
stakes, with a dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all
the time.

I had a news reporter interview me yesterday as I was pumping diesel into my
rig.  She asked if I had heard the report you mentioned.  I told her I had.
She asked if my driving habits had changed and I told her they had not.  She
acted surprised.  She said "Even in this behemoth?"  I told her I had to get
wherever I am going and the cost of diesel is not stopping me from living.
She then asked if anything in my life had changed and I told her my savings
account is being funded less, but still religiously funded.

The only part that made it to the airwaves was me saying "I have to get
where I'm going and it's going to cost me one way or the other."  Nice spin.
Nothing about me not changing my travel plans.  Nothing about the 400 mile
trip I took over the past weekend.  All that was cut.

Freakin Media!

Oh, man...and I looked good too!  Had my sporty dark shades on...my tie was
lined up perfectly with my P line.  Hair was appropriately gelled, but not
overly done.

And not one young lady called asking for a date.  I just don't get it!

The wife did get a little excited though.  She's a sucker for movie stars.
I took advantage of the situation.

They will spin it to their own agenda every time, Nate.
And regardless of what they say otherwise, they all have an agenda.

Their agenda is to edit for drama.  That's what sells
commercials.

It's not newsworthy unless you're whining.  The media won't print
stories of those with a stiff upper lip who just adapt and keep on coping.

Getting to see first-hand how news is fabricated is certainly eye-opening,
isn't it?  My first really big exposure was at Three Mile Island.  I'd go home
every night, flip on the toob and not be able to recognize the plant that I'd
just left.

That's why I stopped doing news.  I get to listen to MUCH better fiction with
my audio books.

Dumping the toob and news altogether was probably the single best thing that
I've ever done to improve my quality of life.  I had a couple of weeks of
withdrawal but then it was and continues to be WONDERFUL.  I have a neighbor
who keeps me up to date on any malfeasance that the local government may be up
to, stuff that might affect me directly.  Property tax increases, things like
that.  Otherwise I'm blissfully ignorant of the media-manufactured world at
large.  So nice.

Not all of them. When our rolling rally to Gillette passed through Blue
Earth, MN, a guy from the local radio station stopped in to talk to us
for their weekly travel show. Since I put the rally together, they sent
him to me. The interview went about 20 minutes. Afterward, I asked if I
could get a copy of the show. No problem. It made it's way to me within
10 days, and they didn't cut or edit anything. The listeners got to hear
what I had to say, the way I actually said it.

When asked a similar question, my response (paraphrased) was that some
people may not get into RVing that otherwise would have, and a few may
hang up their keys, but most serious RVers are going to find a way to
keep doing what we do, no matter what it costs.
