I have an Onan 4.0 BFA 1R 16004A It has always run fine and while it
was running last week I went to shut it down and neither switch (up
front in motorhome and switch onboard onan) would shut it down. I
pulled the wire from the fuel pump and let it run out of gas. After
it
ran out of gas the front rocker switch was still illuminated like the
unit was running. I found the remote starter switch cable had fallen
down on the muffler and melted shorting out. I repaired the cable but
the rocker was still illuminated. Neither switch would get the unit
to
crank. When I plugged the fuel pump back in it would start pumping
fuel like it was trying to start but it doesnt crank, even when you
push "start"  I disconnected the remote start switch and still get
nothing from the onboard switch. The fuel pump is always pumping when
I plug it in, the coil is always getting 12v and the unit will only
crank when I cross 2 terminals on K2. It will start and run fine when
I do that. So I replaced the start solenoid (K1) and there was no
difference. I replaced the 2 relays (K2 and K3) and there is no
difference. When I plug in the remote start/stop switch cable to the
unit, it is still illuminated like the unit is running but its not. I
am open to any ideas at this point, thanks. BTW, I have no wiring
schematics or book for this unit.
