I was at a wrecking yard picking up a couple continous duty solenoids
for my bus wiring and found these neat things in the same old ambulance
carcass.. I know I need em.. but would like to know what they are
first.. :) :) I think the 2 on the left are heavy duty blinkers
things for the lights.. but the 2 things on the right???
I also got a classy looking 12v air compressor and a super cool voltage
and amperage combination guage.. thanks.. -Gar

Depending on the number of connectors, probably diodes or SCRs on a
heat sink.

Theory don't mean squat if it don't work.

If they came off an ambulance they are most likely diodes. In fact
they might even be from an ambulance I designed. The current load
from the on board equipment and lights caused huge loads on
the alternator. Some units replaced the standard alternator diode
pack with higher rated external diodes.
Newer units sequence the equipment rather than presenting a single,
sudden load to the electrical system.

Gar,
They are diodes on heatsinks used to isolate things that are either
supplied from multiple sources or or may have multiple modes. Think of
them a check valves for DC.
The other to a K-series Potter-brumfield relays (often call ice cube
relays) and they can be used for just about anything.
Good Catch!

Damn, Gar! You've still got a picture of your Mercedes rotated 90
degrees, at least on my monitor. And I didn't see what you were
talking about.
OK, I read the rest of the posts and found the images. I concur with
the other posts, they appear to be diodes on heat sinks.

Did your dad buy that IH truck in SIoux City? If so, he likely bought
it from my dad.

I don't think the IH truck dealer sold other farm implements. However,
after my father died in 56, my mother married a fellow that sold
Massey Harris stuff for a short time.
But, as to the truck, if it was purchased from the 40's up to '52, it
may have been my dad. In 53 he left IH and went to sell Mack trucks.
