It sometimes takes 3-4 attempts to get the engine to turn over and start. In
other words when you turn the key the dash gauges, etc light up but nothing
happens when you try to start until after the 3 or 4th key twist and then the
engine starts like nothing has happened. This is happening on two V10 class A
(both 1999). Anyone else with this problem?

Sounds like the starter solenoid contacts are dirty. You might be able
to hear a click when you turn the key to the start position, if so, that
is a good indication. I have a riding mower that does it all the time.
GM vehicles were bad about that and on the old starters you could tear
it apart and clean them. But Ford, like my riding mower has sealed
solenoids and they have to be replaced. But this no longer is the shade
tree mechanics era, you will have to get it down to the computer lab so
they can charge you the trouble shooting fee as well as what ever it
costs to repair it.

We had the same problem with our 1999 Seabreeze V10 chassis. Turned
out to be a loose connection on a solenoid on the passenger side of
the radiator. HTH

Must be a chassis issue, I've never heard of it on trucks

Ralph,
Yes, this solenoid was installed by National RV not Ford. The
connection that was loose was on the small wire that runs to the
solenoid on the starter.

Skip & Sharon, I had the same problem with my 1999 Seabreese on a ford V10
chassis. I took your advice and the problem is gone.
Thank you, truckrman
