Got back from our Yellowstone RV vacation (Directly to PNWCO8) and we sure
had fun. Winter was arriving, as it was snowing on us our last day there...
Here's some Yellowstone pictures, ENJOY!

Great photos, Deano. I really like the one you marked "Coolest". Great
colors and composition. Where was it taken (in the park, nearby?)?

Thanks,

It was taken from "Artist Point" inside yellowstone. (Lower Yellowstone
Falls) I don't have the map in front of me but it's in the northeast side of
Yellowstone and a short hike from a parking lot. Beautiful area and the
clouds were kind of rolling in and out so every few minutes the scenery
would change. Amazing really.

Not sure, we weren't even thinking at the time and didn't take note of what
the different pools were called.

Deano!

The photos are wonderful, they look so professional!

Thanks for reminding me how beautiful yellowstone is.

You did get to Teton NP too didn't you?

Thank you, we really had a wonderful time but we didn't make it to the
Tetons this trip. We were there a few years ago and will make that trip
again someday. We travelled west and spent a night at Craters of the Moon
Nat'l Park in Idaho. What a cool park and yes, like camping on the moon.
Miles and miles of old lava flow and volcano slag. Plus it was clear at
night which also made for some great star pictures. I don't have any of them
posted yet.

You might enjoy the photos we brought back from Yellowstone and the Tetons.
They are part of my 2004 journal.  Here's the shortcut to the Wyoming page:

Carl,

Gorgeous shots....... I confess, my camera didn't take such nice shots so I
grabbed some of yours for my folder. (c:

I'm using one as my desktop.

Thanks so much. I may have to go back there next summer.

BTW, I like the KOA at Teton Village.  Did you drive the back road to Moose? i
guess not or you'd have moose photos...

In 2000 the KOA was 35.00 a night, the most I had paid up until then.

The photos I uploaded have been reduced in size.  I'll be glad to burn you a CD
with the full-sized photos.

I stayed at the Teton Village KOA primarily because of the thumbs up report in
your journal.  I thought they were very pricey and the sites were very small.
The bathhouse was quite crowded.

I did drive the back road from Moose Junction to Jackson Hole.  Didn't see any
mooses.

Previously I have stayed several times at the NPS campground in Gross Ventre. In
1999 we have a moose cow and her calf visit our campsite:

Thanks but they are full sized on my little screen, or close enough.

)c:  Well, now I feel bad..... I don't think anything is much cheaper in that
neck of the woods.

>The bathhouse was quite crowded.>

I bring my own shower so I never go in the public bathhouses.

>I did drive the back road from Moose Junction to Jackson Hole.  Didn't see any

Not sure that's the same drive.  It's the gravel winding road from Teton
Village to Moose.  The roadside is mostly swamps with the mountains in the
background.....every time I took it I saw moosies and babies..... but I was
there in early June, if that matters.

Did you see the "Log" trailer at the trailer park next door?  The one with
Elvis looking out the window?
Wasn't the floor in the Albertsons wonderful?
Did you go to the Chinese Buffet in town? delish.

Are you evacuating for Jeanne?

Don't.  KOAs aren't known for generous size of sites.

It's the same (and one and only) back road to Teton Village.  Most of it is
paved now.   Narrow and winding, I trust you followed the advice and didn't drag
your trailer on it.

As far as I noticed, Teton Village KOA is the only campground left in that area.

> Wasn't the floor in the Albertsons wonderful?

They have relocated the Albertson, about a mile west of where it used to be.

> Did you go to the Chinese Buffet in town? delish.

Not my kind of food, and I'm glad the ladies didn't know about it. ;-)

> Are you evacuating for Jeanne?

Antje and the poodles are evacuating to the La Quinta motel near the airport.
I'm going to stay.  We are only a couple of hundred yards away from the beach,
but Key Biscayne is well south of the predicted landfall area.  Have hurricane
shutters on all windows, and parked the van next to a wall.  Will report
tomorrow or whenever.

Carl,

What are those metal "Tracks" in the moose picture?

We had a site that adjoins the amphitheater.  Thos are the benches.

Great pictures Carl. Looks like you took a picture of the same canyon that
the Yellowstone Falls flows into but I didn't see any waterfall picture Were
you on the upper falls side by any chance?. Also, what month were you there?
Looks like nice weather.

We were there in early August.  Great weather.  Park extremely crowded.

Don't remember from where we took the shots - certainly no vista point that
required a major hike.

We also just got back from Yellowstone, 9/20-9/23. It was getting a
little cold, but I'm glad the weather channel didn't scare us off. I'm
enveous of the bear pictures, didn't see any bears. The sound of the
bull elks in the morning is something I'll never forget.

You can make a cheap Elk call in about 1 minutes.  Hit the Home Depot or
Lowe's and pick up an accordian style toilet riser tube.   The riser tube is
the small pipe that connects the valve to the bottom of the toilet.

It MUST be an accordian style that bends easily.  Carefully bend the tube in
a full circle.  Blow gently through the pipe.  Don't blow like a trumpet.
Blow like it was a straw.  With a little practice you will sound like an
amorous Bull Elk.
