Of all things the Pontiac Aztec was designed to have a tent added to it
for camping. An unusual vehicle to be sure, but quite versitle.

And really ugly!  Never figured out why you want a tent attached to the
vehicle.  Now you can not leave camp with out taking down the tent.

If I knew where you are, I'd trim the crossposts.  Yeah, I run into one of
the gang a couple times a month running around Usenet.  There is a big world
out here--- the political trolls should taper off next week (I hope)  I
suppose they'll be gloating or whining for a while, but at least it will be
a change of subject.

I was planning to do some fishing this morning, but woke to a steady
drizzling rain.  I'm close to the river, and hope to get a few days in
before winter sets in.  The state spends big bucks stocking fish and no one
here fishes the river.  The river doesn't look like much, I suppose, with
all the big water we have around.  In the spring, all the big spawning fish
run up the river, in the evenings walleye and big cats run up out of the
lake, and there are monster carp all day long.  I generally have the place
to myself except up by the dam. (where the local kids show up skipping
school)

Take care

I have been over on rort for a while. I'm still trying to get out of
this house and move in to my 5th wheel camper, but that takes a lot
of coordinating. I stick my head in on awv on occasions.

I suppose I should add your group to my list.  I'm researching motor homes,
myself.

Come on down, the help on RVing here is great, if you can put up
with a few, actually only one, Will Chill is about like Don T.
I might add not quite as bad. Of course I don't think Will has been
through what Don has. Still pissed off at him for letting those
commies tear up my hill in Laos, after all the work, rice and
sardines I invested in it. But that was long long ago.

I'd suggest looking at 3rd party tents, rather than ones made for a specific
vehicle. I got one for my 4x4 Jimmy, sits in a pouch on the back tailgate,
airpoles, self erecting inflating/deflating, uses a compressor inside the
SUV, etc... But the point is that it was about 1/3 the price of one sold by
GMC with a whole lot less features. Got it mailorder off the net (search for
airpole tents). After doing the airpoles rather than rigid poles, I'll never
go back!

I looked for 3rd party tents, but didn't come up with anything like you
referred to. Can you suggest any other names for them?

Thanks for the info on that. I had looked up some air pole tents, but they
aren't quite what I'm looking for. I've found about 4 or 5 that are the type
I'm interested in, the three at the bottom of this group of photos:

http://tinyurl.com/4ke7t

are the specific ones I'm interested in, the Sportz Tent Full Size SUV is the
actual one I'd like to get at this point. But I'm always hoping to run into something
better. When you mentioned 3rd party tents I got the impression that there are
tents made to attach to other tents, and that's what you were referring to. Maybe
it is, and if so I will need to find a better search term than "3rd/third party tents".
What did you mean by 3rd party tents?

3rd party is meant as manufacturers OTHER than the vehicle manufacturers,
and sold as accessories.

In MY GMC Jimmy case, fraid the company that makes the tent is no longer in
existence, so It would do any good to give you the name (if it makes you
feel any better it is an "xtreme SUV air igloo")... But the usual idea of
the air pole/vehicle tents, is that they are simple to use set/up. Open the
door, they go on the ground, sort of like an igloo, are inflated (and
deflated) by an air compressor in the vehicle (that doubles as a tire
inflator) and has an opening/awning/tunnel that goes into the vehicle
itself, where you can leave stuff like clothes, fridge, food, toys, etc, but
still be able to access them without unpacking the vehicle, or by using the
"tunnel" (corridor/flap from the tent to the vehicle), getting wet or going
outside (handy if you are half naked). Use it when driving and get tired
too. Nice to set up in 60 seconds or so.

I like air filled, and the one I have has an air inflated bottom (I like an
air mattress for sleeping... really really comfy), all I need is my sleeping
bag, and a rechargeable electric lantern (recharges from the vehicles
lighter while driving).

If cost _is_ an object, try www.jcwhitney.com

They offer both van and truck tent setups, iirc.

If it wasn't important enough for you to take time to vote,
then it's not important to me to listen to you whine about who won or lost.
