Can anyone give me a comparison between Charleston, SC, and St.
Augustine, FL. I've been to Charleston and it's basically an old city
that is still a real, living city, and not a re-enactment like
Williamsburg, VA. Savannah also is what I call a 'real' city. Both are
just awesome. Is St. Augustine more like Charleston/Savennah or more
like Colonial Williamburg? Thanks for any insight.

St A has a much smaller historic area from colonial days and a few '20s
hotels. I MUCH prefer Charleston with hundreds of old homes, beautiful
colleges and lovely waterfront

It's really not as nice/interesting as W'Burg or Sav or Ch'ton

I haven't been in St. Augustine in a while, but my memory is that while it
does have some legitimate historical attractions (e.g. the Castillo de San
Marco), there's also a lot of ticky-tacky commercial tourist stuff.
Charleston has gotten more commercialized lately, but it still feels more
like a real city than than what I remember of St. Augustine.

To answer the question you seem to have asked, it's more like
Charleston/Savannah than Williamsburg. It isn't just a restored area
like Williamsburg is (although I like Williamsburg). It isn't as big
as the other cities though and it does have a number of touristy type
attractions. It doesn't require a longer visit to see like Charleston
and Savannah do.

You can do StAugustine in a day. Charming, but no Savannah, or Charleston!
