Are laptops permitted as carry ons for domestic US flights?  If not, what
happens to them?

Thanks,
Brett

Yes, and it's not unusual to see people using laptops
during the flight.

(However you can't use them during the first few and
last few minutes of the flight when they ask you not
to use electronic equipment.)

Yes. Laptops are permitted as carry-on luggage.
