Just read "Hidden Prey" by John Sandford. Pretty good book on the
whole, but one passage made by sit up and say "What the...?". It was:
"Canada is notorious for the criminal gangs along the border, preying
on Americans," Lucas said. "They work over here, go back there, and
take advantage of the lack of coordination by the cops."
In the context of the story, the guy means this seriously.
Does this have even a tenuous link with reality ? It's so far from my
concept of Canada as induce a wobble in my worldview !!!

Notorious? That would mean that it happens so often that everyone hears
about it. It was as big a surprise to me as it is to you, and I spent the
last 16 years of my career working very close to 3 of our border crossings
in a law enforcement capacity. It's a crock.

Unless of course you consider the criminal gangs operation on the border
reservations that are involved in the cigarrette, alcohol and drug
trafficking... but I realize that was not the context of the statement.

Oh there are Canadian Border Gangs alright. They're Canadian Geese!
They'll foul your clothes, foul your car, hiss and bite at you. They
cross borders with impunity and without documentation! They travel in
gangs all over the US, fouling up our lakes and rivers. If ever there
was a group that should be profiled and deported it's Canadian Geese! :-(

If anyone doubts Brian, here's a picture of a Canadian Geese gang member
disguised as a penguin:

are.

Maybe it's yankees that need cleansing. The so-called "Canada Geese"
were on their flyway long before there were (gag) Wally Marts.
