My wife and I are visiting NYC for 4 nights in March 2006. We want to
stay centrally, preferably convenient for the Theatres. The Best Western
President seems good value (from USD134 for 'seniors') and convenient
(48th Street between 7th and 8th Aves). I believe the rooms are quite
small. I've seen some old comments (1999) about unrenovated rooms being
poor. Anyone have recent info? Any major downsides?
Thanks in advance, David (UK)

Check www.tripadvisor.com to see if there are any recent reviews, I'm sure
there are.
If you really want a bargain and are not too choosey about the location,
look into
www.priceline.co.uk
or
www.hotwire.com

Thanks Stephen. Trip-Advisor is a great resource! Over 100 regviews
seems enough for anyone. President gets mixed ratings. Looks like
nearby Belevedere is better.
Thanks again

Glad to be of help. If you are fixed on choosing the exact hotel and one
that has good reviews then tripadvisor is great. Don't forget to add your
comments on the hotel you finally settle on into the site. These things only
work if people contribute.
I tend to use priceline for my stateside hotel bookings. The cost (savings
of 10% to 35% on the hotel's web site rate) is welcome. BUT it's non
refunadable and you don't get to choose the hotel (but you do choose the
quality and approximate location). Only after I've won the hotel do I check
it out on tripadvisor.
