We're going for a 10 night vacation to Orlando. We'll get there
Sunday around 12 pm and plan to leave the following week Wednesday on a
4 pm flight from Orlando international airport.
For the first week of our stay in Orlando we plan to the Disney and
Universal etc.
For the 3 and half days left in the second week (Sun, Mon, Tue and ½
of Wed) I hope to be able to spend one full day at Bush gardens and
spend a full 36 hours at the beach and relax from all the running
around.
My question is: how do I schedule this and which beach would you
recommend that is close to Orlando?
a) Go Monday to bush gardens. Stay in a hotel in that area, (like
Clearwater Beach which I read is very nice), on Monday and Tuesday
night. This gives us 1 full day at the beach on Tuesday and little time
on Wednesday since we have to drive back all the way to Orlando
airport to catch our 4 pm flight.
b) Go Monday to bush gardens and drive back Monday evening to a hotel
in the Cape Canaveral/cocoa beach area or another beach in that area
that you can recommend. This will give me Tuesday and half of wed at
the beach
Is the Clearwater beach that much nicer then the Orlando beach? And how
does the weather compare?
Thanks a lot

Orlando does not have a beach, at least not a natural beach. The weather
in Orlando and Clearwater should be similar. Just check the web site at
http://www.weather.com to see how the weather there is.
Clearwater is fine. Daytona and Coacoa beaches are also nice, and a
little closer to Atlanta. Which beach to visit depends on the type of
beach environment you prefer. Whatever you do, I recommend you make your
hotel reservations BEFORE you leave home. If you wait to reserve a hotel
room until you get to the hotel, you will pay rack rate, which is always
a rip off.

Oops, I meant they are a little closer to Orlando. I had Atlanta on my
mind because I recently made a trip there.

You don't say when you're going, but if it's anytime during the next
few months you'll probably find the water too cool for swimming, and
the air might even be too cool for sunbathing. In the winter they
typically have lows in the 50's and highs in the low 70s.

Its Busch Gardens. The Busches are a German-American brewing family,
the Bushes are an English-American political family. No relation.

Busch Gardens is in Tampa, which is on the Gulf Coast. Cape Canaveral,
etc are on the Atlantic Coast. If you have your heart set on Busch
Gardens, then you should certainly go to a beach on the Gulf side. Its
crazy to go 90 miles west of Orlando to a theme park and then 90 miles
east of Orlando to the beach. Clearwater is fine.
Really, if you cannot get your fill of theme parks in Orlando, you are
really into theme parks. Disney and Univeral may satisfy you, and
Busch is not that big a deal.
There are, BTW, buses that run from Orlando to Busch for less than $5.

Orlando is as far from the ocean as one can be in Florida. It has no
beach.
