I seem to remember some cabins as part of a hotel on the Hanna side of
Maui, way down at the bottom.

You mean this place? http://www.hotelhanamaui.com/ I think it might be
outside the OP's budget. The "cheap" cabins are about $400 a day. Of
course, they aren't your typical campground cabins either. ;-)
