Anyone know about it?  Rates seem reasonable.  Looks like a good
location for theater, museums...

I've stayed several times at the Vanderbilt Y, on the east side. Its
location is not as convenient as the West Side Y and it doesn't have
the upgraded rooms, as the latter does, but it's very near my
daughter's office.

The pool and other amenities (weight room, etc.) were not a big draw
to me, and the facilities were often in use for classes, so the hours
available were somewhat limited. I did get a good, very
reasonably-priced massage.

I would definitely try the West Side Y, if you don't mind sharing a
bath. Or maybe they have private baths, at a higher price. (The
Vanderbilt Y doesn't.)

Good bus connections from that area (M66 crosstown on 65th/66th Sts.,
in addition to the uptown/downtown buses on avenues), plus the trains
at 59th St and 66th St. If you do stay there, walk down Columbus Av.,
which becomes 9th Av. south of 59th St., and keep walking until you
hit the lower 50s. From around 54 St. to 42 St. and even further
south, there are various more or less inexpensive restaurants, and a
variety of cuisines are represented.
