We'll be staying overnight in downtown Raleigh on June 26. The best deals
seem to be the Red Roof, the Days Inn and the Clarion. Can anyone let me
know if the areas around these are safe and if the places are nice? We'll be
coming in and going out on Amtrak (Charlotte to Philadelphia). Red Roof is
only $50; Days Inn is $59  and Clarion is $80.

Other suggestions?

Thanks,

John

There are way more location-specific questions and answers (by locals)
on TripAdvisor than on this newsgroups.  Really everyone would be
better off using it than asking questions here.  I've looked at several
(Frommers, virtualTourist, etc.) and TripAdvisor is definitely the best
and has the highest activity.

You will get your question answered there right away.

Currently, Homewood Suites (by Hilton) is ranked #1, La Quinta is #2,
and Hampton Inn (by Hilton) is #3.

Last time (many years ago) my ex and I stayed at a Red Roof Inn in Florida
(only place open).  Could not get a good night's sleep with all the noise
going on outside.  I think of it now as a "book by the hour" hotel and would
never stay there again.
