I'm driving from Dayton Ohio (SW ohio) to Niagara falls on an upcoming
vacation. The stretch of I-90 east of cleveland near the lake is about
the half way point on our trip, and I'd like to stop and let the family
stretch their legs for an hour or two.
Can anyone recommend perhaps a park along that route that would have
nice views, and a place to walk around,etc...
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

Thompson Ledges is just a little way from I-90, roughly 50 miles east
of Cleveland. It's quite scenic, or at least it was when I lived
nearby, about 25 years ago!
For directions, see
<http://hikingohioparks.com/thompson-ledges-park-hiking-ohio-parks.html>.
It's on Route 528, just south of I-90.

Presque Isle State Park just outside Erie Pa is about half way
and is rather pretty as I recall

How about Headlands Beach State Park? Also known locally as Mentor
Headlands.

Nice, but quite a way from I-90. One would have to take SR 2 from
Wickliffe and go north for quite a distance from Mentor or Painesville.

If you're going via 71/271 to I-90 it's a short detour to Chagrin Falls,
a marvellous little town. We go there twice a year from the N Falls area.
Great place to stretch your legs & windowshop. Free parking at Giant Eagle.
The falls are very pretty and there's a park along the Chagrin river as
well,
right in town.
To get there take 480 from 271. If you have the time take
Washington St East to 306. Very nice drive to I-90.
Unfortunately there's not much in the way of parks on L. Erie
but again, if you have the time, take 306 to 2/20 for a more
scenic drive than I-90.

Not MUCH more scenic, though!

If you like historic tourism, the James A Garfield National Historic Site
is in Mentor, about 30 miles east of Cleveland, and a couple of miles off
I90:

Hi
there is a theme park nearby I stoped their years ago
I find crossing into Canada at Detroit taking the 401/403 is quicker
than staying in the US
Visit Ford Museum in Detroit
when in Niagara Falls check these links

OH make sure you see the falls at sundown under the lights
best view is from the Canada side
enjoy the visit

It's only 26 miles and 45 minutes longer. Why not it works out about
the same.

Well, let's see. The OP said he'd "like to stop and let the family
stretch their legs for an hour or two" at some place ALONG the route.
And you're saying they should make a side trip to Detroit and spend
most of a day visiting a museum? C'mon!
