Weekend trip to DC

Hello

The SO and I are planning to get out of Dodge for the weekend (next)
and definitely have Mt. Vernon on the itinerary. We want to hit a
couple high spots in DC, namely Jefferson, Lincoln, and Vietnam
memorials.  My questions:  It appears, using my Streets and Trips
software, that there is a parking area, or a pullout, just south of
the Jefferson Memorial. Is this true? Are there any such places to
park near the other two memorials mentioned?

Again, this just a hit-and-run kind of thing, so $25/day parking lots
are not required.

Any other suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

I go by all of these about once a week, but I don't drive, so my take on
this may be slightly off - corrections welcomed.

Far as I can see, the public parking immediately adjacent to the Lincoln and
Jefferson memorials is closed. There are barricades and they only seem to
let certain vehicles through, turning most away (and of course those of us
on bicycles are welcomed). Instead, you can try to find a spot along the
road in West Potomac Park, which sits between the two memorials.

There never was any parking immediately adjacent to the Vietnam memorial
(it's in the middle of the mall) but depending on the day and time you may
be able to find parking on nearby streets, like 23rd.

In any case you're looking at a little walking.

Thanks Miguel. I knew I could get some feedback from you.

Given that there will be "a little walking" involved, are there
benches along the way? It has been some time since I was there, but it
seems that I recall benches lined the mall area...is this true of the
walks that we are talking about? I ask because my wife can only walk
about 250-300 yards before she has to rest, due to a spinal condition.

Again, thanks for any help/direction.

There are lots of benches all around the Lincoln and Vietnam Memorial area.
Some near the Jefferson but not a whole lot. If your wife has a medical
condition you should be able to drop her off right by the Jefferson Memorial
and then go park. The barricade is only about 50 yards from the memorial
itself.

If you have handicap tags they might even let you drive in; I'm not sure.

Follow the signs for FDR parking.  Park on Potomac Drive along the river.
Its a no brainer and easy and free.

My mapping software shows no Potomac Dr along the river. I see
Ohio Dr SW which runs immediately adjacent to the river, and on the
other side of the river is GW Memorial Highway.

Sheeesh...I'm still sitting at my desk, and already I'm lost.

Hi-

I can'r help you at all with directions, but I do want to encourage you
to consider the FDR memorial. Very different than the others and a
memorial to an important man. The Jefferson and Lincoln memorials are
fine to see if you have particular interest, but I don't find much of
interest in just seeing them.

In any case, enjoy!!!

Susan

PS- In your return e-mail address there isn't any "nono" in it, as your
directions state. Do you mean "none"? or???
