Another reason the power grid failed18 Aug 2003 14:39 GMT55
Another reason there was inadequate power backup was the NIMBYs - they do
their best to prevent new power stations from being built anywhere near
where they live, and they live everywhere.  And they enlist the
environmentalists as well.

I´ll be flying through Abu Dahbi and Bahrain on my trip to Asia in
September and December?
Is any (or both) of these cities worth a stopover longer than the couple of
hours inside the airport? If yes, what to see, where to stay, any special
Flying Into Istanbul18 Aug 2003 12:59 GMT5
Have to go to Turkey at relatively short notice, and have been told that
visas are available at "point of entry".
Any info about how this is done at IST, and any possible problems would be
most appreciated.
Airline fare codes18 Aug 2003 08:20 GMT8
What is the difference between say c/Business and J/Business, or Q
economy and M/Economy. All I know is that Y/Economy is full price
ticket with no restrictions. Or can anyone point me in the right
direction to find out about these codes?

landing and departing in same direction?18 Aug 2003 01:40 GMT2
I was at DCA today doing some plane watching and watch a couple landings
coming in from the South. Then I saw a Northwest 737 depart towards the
South and then an American Eagle EMB-145 depart towards the North.
Does this happen often? Would it have been the wind that dictated this

Germanwings drops Edinburgh-Cologne17 Aug 2003 09:35 GMT1
I've been trying for the last week or two to book a winter flight from
Edinburgh to Cologne on Germanwings.  All I've got from the web site
is "no flights available on that day" accompanied by a message about
Istanbul.
Delta 737-20017 Aug 2003 04:07 GMT2
At DCA today, I saw a Delta 737-200.  I'd have thought that by now all
the -200s would be catching tumble-weed in the desert.
I looked up the registration and that plane first flew in August 1986.  It
must have been among the last -200s.
What is the Bill of Rights and how does it apply to r.t.a.?16 Aug 2003 21:08 GMT25

My apologies if this seems dreadfully off-topic.  I feel that it is
relevant to the overall topic of air travel, especially for US
citizens and those traveling inside the USA.

penalty for using paper tickets?16 Aug 2003 04:02 GMT8
a short blurb in newsweek states how airlines are becoming very strict
about baggage weight limits (e.g 50+ lbs = $25), and this little thing
at the end:
"They won't accept paper tickets either - without a fee. Luddites

People in the USA comment on this phenomenon all the time, but I have
experienced it for the first time:
I'm planning to go to Glasgow for a conference around September 10.
