| Southwest and assigned seats | 22 Oct 2003 23:22 GMT | 4 |
Remember the comments a few weeks ago that Southwest was going to begin assigning seats. No says the management. It's not even being considered as a possibility. So much for that set of prognosticators. FFM

| Best day to purchase airline tickets (i.e., the least expensive day) | 22 Oct 2003 19:46 GMT | 8 |
Hi. I'm new to this board. A few years ago I read that there is a best day to purchase airline tickets, but I can't remember what day that is. I think it's in the middle of the week (Wednesday, perhaps?). Can any of you advise me about this? I'm in the United States. Thank you.

| Exit row seats on "Flying Skidoo" | 22 Oct 2003 00:15 GMT | 2 |
Wondering if exit row seats on an RJ (specifically an Atlantic Southeast Canadair) offer more leg room than the regular seats? I have one booked in a couple of weeks, it will be my first experience with the exit row on this particular aircraft.

| Other Boeing news | 22 Oct 2003 00:10 GMT | 4 |
One of the flight testing 777-300ER made a trip from SEA-TPE earlier this week. No big deal normally but power was cut to one of the GE90-115B engines (most powerful jet ever developed) so that the a/c flew the remaining 5 1/2 hours to TPE on one engine. ETOPS 330 anyone?

I've heard that buying airline tickets after midnight, when the airlines update their inventory, can be a good way to get cheaper tickets. Has anyone here tried this before? Has it worked? Thanks.

| British Airways to abandon Birmingham | 21 Oct 2003 20:21 GMT | 5 |
A meeting was held on Friday between BHX and British Airways at which it was decided that BA are to run down their loss-making operations a BHX and pull out completely by winter 2005. It hasn't reached the press yet, but as far as BHX is concerned, it's bye-bye BA.
