Got bumped from a Delta flight from Rio recently and Delta put me onto TAM. This is one of those unknown airlines (at least to some of us) which was about as good in economy as Delta was in business.

An international ticket costs $1200 at aa.com or 75K miles. Let's say I have enough miles and enough fdollars to go either way. I am trying to figure our which is the better deal and why? Are miles bes used for tickets or upgrades?
