I'm traveling from Philadelphia to Rome, via CDG, on Air France. My bags will be checked through to Rome. My question is: Do I pick up my bags at CDG, go through Immigration and Customs, then redeposit them on a transfer belt to go to Rome? Or, do I not bother with them ...

I recently found out the hard way not to use this means of booking 'cheap' airline travel. The story unfolds thus: I booked using Orbitz to travel LAX-PDX July 6. I then discovered that I had booked my flight up a day too early, but was okay for the return flight.
