Have to do a quick two-day trip SFO to DTW (Detroit) late next month. One choice is Northwest nonstop, with departure and arrival times that are pretty convenient for me. Other choice is United via connections through Denver or Chicago.

Just a quickie really. Is it still possible to turn up at the airport with your case and buy a holidya there and then? Just thinking about upgraded security etc. If it is possible are the prices good or are they the same as if you were to book a day or so beforehand?
