I got a guidebook dated 1999 which claims from Bangkok to Kathmandu
cost $110.
That seems too good to be true.  Anyone have more recent figures?
The book also said that though it is possible to get a visa on arrival

Travelling between cities in Thailand, is it necessary to book a bus ticket
in advance? Or are shorter routes "turn up and go"? And if so, how does one
