This will be our fourth trip in as many years and we intend to see what's to be seen north of Tokyo. We were thinking of heading up the east coast through Sendai, then across and down the coast of the inland sea. Or thereabouts.

I'm in New Zealand at the moment and haven't yet bought a guide book for Japan, so what would be my best option? I'm backpacking and interested in budget accomodation (dorms etc.), doing both the touristy and non-touristy stuff.

I 'm looking for a budget hotel in Singapore not too far from the Lavender Bus Station, say in Little India or Geylang. I plan to spend no more than 100 S$ per night for a room (we are 2 adults and a 7 years children). Do you have any recommendation ?
