Availablity of ATMs in India?27 Sep 2004 23:27 GMT1
I'll be spending 6 months in India. I've heard ATMs are scarce. And I
was wondering whether it's better to have a Cirrus or Visaplus card.
Also, if ATMs are scarce, how do you carry money--the usual
traveller's checks and cash?

Jerusalem Falafel's FULL LINE of products can be found on the shelves
of  all the "Tops" supermarkets (who refuse to carry Picke King's
line) in Chiang Mai, and the FULL LINE of Jerusalem Falafel's
delicious foods can be found (but you've got to get their early in the

Does anyone have any information on these hotels in China?  I'd be
particularly interested in any experience staying at the hotels.

US Airlines require Thai visa before boarding?26 Sep 2004 20:40 GMT3
I'm asking this because I've got a one-way ticket this year from the
US to Bangkok. In years past, I've never gotten asked for a Thai visa
before boarding in the US with a r/t ticket. In Europe, many airlines
insist on a Visa, or they won't let you board. I didn't know if US

is it possible for tourists to cross the border between Thailand and Laos at
either Mukdahan - Savannaketh or Ubon Rachathani - Pakse?
If yes, can we get a two weeks visa at the border or should we get this in
Private Tour Guide for Bankok26 Sep 2004 10:24 GMT13
I know that advertising is a no-no in these groups, but I wanted to do
a little self-promotion here! ;)
If you are thinking of visiting Bankok anytime in the near future, but
are worried about finding a hotel, getting around town, shopping,
Seeking recommendations for hotel in Bangkok26 Sep 2004 09:35 GMT3

Driving to Iran.26 Sep 2004 08:02 GMT10
OK, I know this news group might not be the quite right one, but I couldn't
find something more relevant.
This is a pretty hypothetical question, as I doubt it will never be a
feasible project. I was thinking about going to Iran, and I was also
?how easy is it to stay long term in Vietnam or Laos?25 Sep 2004 09:04 GMT3
I am comparing to Thailand and Cambodia.
In Thailand, because they want tourists (even if a very small minority
are actually working as ESL teachers)visas are a snap. For example if
one gets a tourist visa at a consulate before arriving it's good for
Are air fares much cheaper from Bangkok to the US, versus the US to Bangkok?25 Sep 2004 05:24 GMT3
Does anybody know how much you'd save by getting a r/t ticket from
Bangkok to the US, versus the other way around? I live 4 months in
Boston, and 8 months in Thailand every year, but always buy the r/t
ticket on the US side, and it's expensive from Boston, but maybe

Money in Japan25 Sep 2004 02:38 GMT18
I understand that Japan is basically a cash society.  My husband and I
will be traveling there for 3 weeks and would certainly prefer not to
carry cash for the whole time.  Is it possible to buy travelers checks
there in yen and have those accepted throughout the country?  For
KL + Penang.25 Sep 2004 00:51 GMT5
We've not been for over 10 years & will be there in October. We're not
really into shopping malls but will probably stay near KLCC. We're looking
for places with atmosphere like in old Malacca & was wondering if anyone can
recommend somewhere similar in KL. Is KL's Chinatown is ...
