I was at the Trang Hotel last year. Fine place as far as I was concerned but a bit out of the way in Banglamphu. I've stayed at the Asia Hotel [a bit fancy] and thought I'd try the nearby First Hotel for 4 days due to its location near BTS.

Will have an overnight stop in Singapore shortly. I hear that there are hotels in the transit areas and they seem quite reasonable. It would be cheaper to clear customs and use taxis to check into a downtown hotel but for convenience the transit option seems OK
