We will be spending Christmas week in Tasmania and are looking for mid-range

We are still assessing our itinerary, but will probably fly into/out of

I realise this is the Tranzalpine route and train is probably easier, though
more expensive.
Is the bus route as scenic as the train?

One of the few spots I haven't been in Oz is Cairns and
surrounds. I'm finally going to visit for about a week in
June. I'd appreciate advice on places to go, things to see.
I've done a little research already. We'll probably stay
