driving in france13 Aug 2003 15:00 GMT9
I am off to france next week and will be getting a car while I am there.
Just trying to get a feel for what the roads are like there. What are the
speed limits on the motorways? I see on one of my routes (one the N89 east
from Bordeaux) that there is an 'N' road and an 'A' road - is ...
Grand tour - sort of, advice request13 Aug 2003 14:16 GMT1
Dear All,
This is a little pre-mature but it doesn't hurt to have some
advice from the collective knowledge on this board when still in
the most embryonic of the planning stages.

I've been trying to find a site of holiday horror stories.  I've done
searches, but haven't come up with anything, although I'm sure there
must be some.  Does anyone know of any?

Why is it illegal to take roubles?13 Aug 2003 10:09 GMT12
I've been told that it's illegal to leave Russia with roubles. Does anyone know:
A. Why.
B. If it's illegal (American law) to possess them in America, and if so, why?
Thanks in advance.
I Signed Up with GreatEscapes Vacation Club - Did I Make a Mistake?13 Aug 2003 03:01 GMT1
I need information. I just signed up with an outfit called
GreatEscapes Vacation Club on Saturday. They solicit you to come to a
meeting by telling you you've won a three-day, two-night trip to
either Orlando or Vegas. But you must come to a 90-minute presentation
Reason for the war posts12 Aug 2003 21:28 GMT18
Here in RTE we get many posts on the subject of why Europe
should love the USA because of the latter's action in WWII.
I understand this attitude as I once shared it, back when I was
ignorant of world history.  You see, American schools almost
driving trip to Germany (and then?)12 Aug 2003 18:40 GMT2
I'm planning a driving trip from Geneva, Switzerland to Hamburg,
Germany. I have a total of 9 days and 3 options, and would be grateful
for some feedback from people who know the region or have traveled
this way. Some context is necessary: we have to go to Hamburg, we have
Why they hate us - Here's why12 Aug 2003 17:05 GMT10
Western Europe has certainly enjoyed safety and security for the last decades
and just where do you think that peace of mind came from? Thank you America for
keeping us safe.
Oh, did you think that your safety was because people were afraid to invade you
Ireland - pub etiquette?12 Aug 2003 15:20 GMT7
To escape the heat in England for a few days, I'm thinking of a trip
to Ireland where temperateures are at a pleasant 22°C.
I don't drink much alcohol for health reasons, but I think I'll allow
myself a nice pint or two of Guiness whilst there.
Restaurant prices in Barcelona?12 Aug 2003 12:56 GMT1
I'm heading to Barcelona for a week. My hotel charges 12 euros for
breakfast and therefore I think that it might be cheaper to eat
somewhere else. How much should I expect to use money per day for
breakfast, lunch and dinner? I'm planning to have some kind of bread &

I am planning to vacation in Malta in November & attend the Malta

What's wrong with Vienna?12 Aug 2003 03:21 GMT30
As a daily reader of this group, I notice that no one ever seems to visit or
even talk about Vienna. I have never been there, but have heard -- in the
seemingly distant past -- that it is worth a visit. Is something not
desirable about it?
