I'm going to Rome on 29th April and I'll stay till 6th May there. I've read about Rome a lot, bought some books, but I've never found any information what one could do in Rome on the 1st of May. Is there any monuments opened (Forum Romanum, Colosseum, Palatino)?

I'm travelling from the U.S. to London next week. The current exchange rate it 1GBP = 1.78USD, I went to a local bank and they wanted 1.88USD. That amounts to a 5.5% fee. That seems a bit steep to me, but its been years since I've done this.
