I'm travelling from the U.S. to London next week.  The current exchange
rate it 1GBP = 1.78USD,  I went to a local bank and they wanted 1.88USD.
That amounts to a 5.5% fee.  That seems a bit steep to me, but its been years
since I've done this.

several jumps - from Istanbul to Sofia, Sofia to Budapest, and Budapest
to Vienna (missing Rumania).

My (college age) daughter and friend will be traveling to the
Netherlands and Germany in about 3 weeks, flying in to Frankfurt.  They
have some kind of rail pass already, as well as some hostel rooms paid
