I am debating either depending on my debit card or my credit card in Europe. Which is the better deal? Does anyone know if the banks in Germany charge a service charge when using a debit card at an atm? What about using a credit card for cash withdrawals are there any service

I have bought a four day (in one month) SNCF rail pass which I can use anywhere in France. I have sorted a stay in Paris then we travel to the Alpes for 5 days (via TGV to Chambery then TER up the mountains).

Every time I see that post about "How would you rank European countries on cost to vacation?" I think "Why?" Why rate them at all? Does a person chose to go somewhere based on what other people think of the relative cost? I certainly don't, and I wouldn't
