We're planning on travelling to Thessalonika in June this year. I've
studied recommendations, info on restaurants, hotels, taxi, etc. What
else should we know about this area that's not easily found in
guidebooks, i.e., people's behavior, traditions, etc.?

We would like to travel Eastern Europe. Usually when we travel, we travel on
our own, rent a car, etc. and go. A German friend has advised not to travel
on our own in Eastern Europe due to poor road conditions, poor signage, etc.

I will be arriving in Madrid this Sunday AM to prepare for business meetings
next week.  I only have one day of personal time and want to stay active on
Sunday to get adjusted to the time zone.  Any suggestions for "must do"

Near the Eastern end of the bay at Kissamos is a factory which seems
to constantly spew disgusting fumes. Does anyone what it makes, what's
in all that smoke, and how its presence is tolerated? You can see a

Some friends of mine wish to have a tour guide in Rome toward the end of

I saw an article where licenses were suspended in January 2008 for both Casa
Rosso and the Banana Bar in the RLD.  Just curious - are these
establishments closed now (Feb-2008) - or does this remain a work in
progress?

Try as I might I cannot get a website (in English) with details of

We're planning to visit the Cinque Terre during the first week of April. We
