I am looking for a companion to do some kiking in Southern Chile during the Jan-Feb timeframe. I have done Torres del Paine so I am interest in something different. I should point out that I am 57, reasonably fit, and Chilean national residing in Canada.

Three of us will be visiting Rio De Janeiro from 3-8 October and would appreciate suggestions on where to stay. We would prefer a moderate/inexpensive, clean and comfortable lodging in/near Ipanema. Can anyone offer suggestions based on experience?

I was considering a two week trip to Buenas Aires and Uruguay in January, but what I have read so far strongly discourages going at that time because so many places are closed and prices are higher. I'd appreciate some comments.
