| Has anyone driven from Santiago to Puerto Montt? | 22 Dec 2003 12:44 GMT | 1 |
My wife and I are flying into Santiago. She's something of a reluctant flyer, so I thought I would take a week to drive down to Puerto Montt, perhaps Chiloe, stopping at a few places and driving back. We are used to long drives and enjoy sight seeing from the car more than a bus ...

| Malaria and Money in Guatemala | 21 Dec 2003 21:19 GMT | 9 |
I've traveled to South America before, and although I've taken the pills along, I've never used them. The locals always found silly what alarmed my doctor back home. Naturally, I took their advice not his. I avoided dawn and dusk mesquito swarms, and managed to avoid malaria.

Any advice on arranging transportation between these two points...? Is it easy to set up? Do I need to do so before I leave for Costa Rica? Or can I wait until the morning I want to leave?

| Mexico City's Metro too "much" with kids? | 16 Dec 2003 02:27 GMT | 7 |
I've read about Mexico City's Metro; that it's really crowded and full of pick-pocket crimes. We'll be there the week between X'mas and New Year. Are the metro still crowded then since I've heard the city is quite empty. We will be travelling with our two kids, ages 9 and 11.

| TR: Texas to Puerta Vallarta | 16 Dec 2003 02:21 GMT | 4 |
Just got back from a 10-day road trip from San Antonio, Texas to just north of Puerta Vallarta. Excellent trip. Over 2,500 miles of driving, much of it at night and on back roads, despite warnings from many "mexperts" who assured us doing so would lead to our demise.
