I´m planning a three month trip through Guatemala in january - mainly because I want to improve my Spanish. But lately I´m a little bit concerned because I hear a lot about increasing crime such as robberies and rape.

Last fall we drove from NM to Tucson and then took the bus to Guaymas and stayed in the San Carlos area for a week. We're still not really interested in driving to Guaymas as well as we can get around just fine by local bus and we normally stay in a pretty small area.
