very close to New York. I heard about places like Asbury Park and

Recently, I had to search for a couple of areas in Chicago as my dad
was born there in 1927 and I was over for a holiday. I hired a car and
drove in from Detroit.
When I got to the areas, I greated by an apparently run down area with

i have just had an idea to spend 3 weeks over christmas and new year driving
across the US from new york to LA (or vice versa) taking a presumably warmer
and more scenic route across the south - will the midwinter weather be ok
for most of the route?
