Why Victorian?08 Dec 2004 20:50 GMT11
Whilst looking for accomodation on the east coast (thanks to all for the
very helpful suggestions) I was puzzled as to why Americans call B&Bs from
the 19th Century, Victorian?  Shouldn't the time period be named after one
of your presidents rather than one of our queens?
NYC Laguardia-Midtown Ground Transportation08 Dec 2004 18:29 GMT10
What's the best and most cost effective way to get a family of 5 plus
luggage from Laguardia to Midtown?  I don't think a standard cab will
fit all of us, and no, we won't be trying public transportation for
$1.50.  I researched it a little online, but I just can't see paying

usually in late summer or autumn, sorry fall :-).  This year I was thinking
of taking my father on a week/ 10 day trip to California in April as he has
never been and is keen to visit.   So I was wondering if ...

historic district that won't break the bank.
How is the Days Inn? I get mixed signals on this
one.  Can one get a room with a micro/fridge?
What's with the Calif. agricultural checks?07 Dec 2004 17:25 GMT6
Hello... I'm from B.C., and usually drive down to San Diego 4 times a
year. ....Coming into Calif. from any direction by vehicle, one must
pass through an agricultural road check station where they ask you if
you're carrying any plants or fruits.  ...It was an expected stop for us

Hi, I'm trying to plan a trip for my boyfriend and I to take over
school break (December 21 - Jan 2).  He really wants to get out of
town (we're in Seattle) to somewhere sunny and warm where he can do
some outdoorsy activities.  He likes to camp, although not at those

I have been looking at the passport expediting services and it seems
that I can do this cheaper myself by flying into Chicago... here is the

heated pools stone cold06 Dec 2004 01:13 GMT13
Why oh why do (many) American hotels advertize with heated pools and cannot
make that promise true? We stayed at the Best Western at Ocala last week,
called if the pool was heated. Yes sir, it will be 80 F. Well, it appeared
to be stone cold. A complaint at the front desk didn't ...
San Francisco Area05 Dec 2004 22:54 GMT2
We will spend a few days in and around Frisco.    We prefer to stay out of
the city most likely north of Frisco and take the ferry over from Tiburon.
Any motel recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
