Which are the best public transportation areas or cities in the southern US that non-drivers might want to live in? By south I mean warm weather USA with little or no winter, not the historical South.

My wife and I are visiting the Southern States in a couple of weeks on a motor tour starting from Atlanta, taking in Chattanooga, Nashville, Memphis, Jackson, Natchez, Lafayette, New Orleans (2 nights), Birmingham and back to Atlanta.
